MEETINGS Our meetings are held each month in the United Reform Church, The Boulevard, Weston-Super-Mare on the first Monday of the month at 7.30 p.m. Directions. We usually have a speaker or a short teaching or sewing session, a fabric stall, a raffle and sometimes a bring and buy. We have a large library of books and some videos, available free on loan to members. Other membership benefits include:
Previous speakers have included Sandie Lush, Fenella Davies, Jackie Taylor, Jan Hassard and Sally-Ann Boyd. Membership costs £28 per year (as of January 2008) and entry into the meetings each month is free of charge. Visitors are always welcome, cost £3.50 per meeting. Forthcoming Events for 2008: 7th January 2008 AGM 4th February 2008 Hand Bag Collection - A collection of miniature quilts from one of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles collections. 3rd March 2008 Madeleine Millington - Blanket Appliqué - Madeleine’s specialty in stitched textiles is using recycled stitched blankets. The blankets are then dyed and used to create tactile and quirky pieces. Her pieces are them embellished to create brooches, bracelets, necklaces and wall hangings. 7th April 2008 Jennifer Barlow - An introduction to Durham Quilts - Using welsh quilts as a comparison and their social history 12th May 2008 Members Evening - TBA (Please bring a sewing kit). Please note the date the first Monday falls on a Bank Holiday9th June 2008 Roy Dickinson – Man in a woman’s world - The only man in the UK to complete both parts of the City and Guilds P & Q Qualifications takes a light- hearted look at Man-made Quilts in the UK and from around the world. 7th July 2008 American Pot Luck Supper - A celebration of the '4th July' with all things American 4th August 2008 Members evening - Preparation for the show, Weston Super Quilts 2008. August 2007 Coach Trip to the Festival of Quilts at Birmingham NEC - TBC 1st September 2008 Catherine Millar – Quilting Outside the Box - An exploration of quilters and quilts that do not conform to traditional patterns 12th -14 th September 2008 WESTON SUPER QUILTS 2008 6th October 2008 Lynne Quinn – Colourwash and Counterchange - A mini workshop in the use of colour and value. You will be able to make a block or 2 towards a quilt.
